The kinesiology degree program has a strong foundation in the natural and social sciences. Exercise and Sport Physiology track is appropriate for students interested in pursuing careers in sport science, health promotion, medicine, wellness, sports medicine, and allied health (i.e. physical therapy, athletic training, occupational therapy, cardiac rehabilitation, and corporate wellness).
Concentrations are available in wellness or performance. Sam Houston State University offers a choice of concentrations to students in the kinesiology degree program, including applied exercise science, clinical exercise science, general kinesiology, and physical education teacher education. San Diego State University offers concentrations in exercise science, fitness specialist, and pre-physical therapy as part of its kinesiology degree program. Students can focus their studies on a choice of degree tracks, including allied health and pre-physical therapy, all-level teacher certification, athletic training, fitness leadership, and general kinesiology. The kinesiology degree at California State University – Northridge offers students a choice of six areas of focus for academic options, including athletic training, applied fitness, dance, exercise science, general studies, and physical education. The Department of Kinesiology has an articulation agreement with Central Michigan University that allows selected students to fast track into a doctor of physical therapy program. The program provides access to a tight-knit alumni network and positive graduate outcomes, with 98% of undergraduate students employed or continuing their education after graduation. The School of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan offers three undergraduate kinesiology degree programs in applied exercise science, movement science, and sport management. CUI’s department of Kinesiology is host to three different lab settings which offer multiple opportunities for lab based instruction and the formation of undergraduate research. This may come in the form of an Associate of Arts in Kinesiology or completion of a transfer plan with the University of Texas at San Antonio or Texas A&M University at San Antonio. Fundamentals of walking are introduced for the student’s enhancement in cardiovascular fitness and weight control through exercise, stretching, and progressive endurance walks. The curriculum combines health and kinesiology fundamentals along with a signature experience in community-based physical activity, fitness and wellness, or research.
